The Oxford Belles
We are The Oxford Belles: Oxford University’s original all-female a cappella group. Established in 1995 to combat Oxford’s male-dominated music scene, the Belles are known for their sassy attitude and kickass arrangements of girl power anthems.
Over the past couple of years, we have performed around the UK for balls, parties, and other events. Some of our highlights include singing for BBC Sports Relief in the Olympic Park, featuring on BBC South News for world music day, being voted the Best Acapella Show (‘Blame it on the Belles’) at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by 26 independent judges (as part of the Derek Awards), performing for NBC Universal at the Dominion Theatre, featuring on The Guilty Feminist and recording three EPs – Blame it on the Belles Phenomenal Women, and Women of Note (https://open.spotify.com/album/3cB1YtJJZNiQNJoL1Y2Y67…)
In 2017, we released 2 music videos, Girls Just Want to Have Fun(damental Rights), to celebrate International Women’s Day. It has gained an incredible amount of views and responses, from the BBC, The Evening Standard and even from Cyndi Lauper herself. In addition we released O Holy Night, as our charity Christmas single.
This year we are heading to the Edinburgh Fringe, to mark 100 years since women’s right to vote.
We will be auditioning in October so watch this space!
